Mendocino Unleashed

The drive up to Mendocino from SF is can seem a little long, but don’t worry the time passes quickly with good company. I highly suggest driving through Anderson Valley and if you are anything like me, enjoy the heat.

image

The drive is lovely, specially once past Santa Rosa. Not to mention, the route is filled with hills, woods, creeks and wineries to stop in. Yes I said wineries, California is known for them and there are a good number on this route.

image

We decided to take a break at Navarro. It was one of the few wineries that we did not drive by and think “Opps, should we have pulled in there?” Luckily they had signs and an easy driveway to turn into, so we did. When we get out of the car, I am embracing the heat and just loving the warm weather.

Mr. A on the other hand… not so much. All the wineries, the rows moving rhythmically, are gorgeous and the colors of the grapes change from winery. Not hard to fall in love with California when all the nature and greenery is surrounding you.

As you drive on, the temperature keeps dropping and I start freeze. Go figure it gets to be nicer for Mr. A! Pulling into Mend0cino is just filled with amazing views of the coast line. We drive through town and to one of the last hotels on the rode.

The hotel was quite sweet. With an ocean view and a killer fireplace, it was cozy. Ok so the purple carpet was a bit rich but, hey I don’t live here 24/7 and against the white walls, it kinda fits.

image

The bathroom has an stellar triangle shower, that keeps the steam in. Plus that is not all.

image

It has a spa tub with the ocean view! Now as a girl who has not had a decent tub since 2001, I was in HEAVEN!! Very happy that this room was already set up for me to soak.

image

Added all this with a bottle of champagne and an amazing unobstructed ocean view, we knew this weekend would spell relaxation. I really fell for the bit of cove with the rocks, and the white crests crashing on to the ocean.

image

Yea either way we looked, it was just coast line. We met the neighbors quickly and found out they rocked. Random but goes to show you that being considerate and friendly is always a good thing.

image

Walking around, going through the coast is amazing. Though I really fell for the trees and how they were bent with years of coastal wind

image

for which I made us climb in! It was a lot of fun hanging out in the tree until we came down in an animals hunt spot. Luckily for me Mr. A warned me and I went the other way, though it was kind of creepy.

Walking more lead to great views, cliffs, and water crashing. Check the photos out:

We walked up and down the coast until we found the bridge, which captured our attention. Then spent a good time just looking at it and the overall coast.

Sometimes all you need is time with the one you love in a beautiful place.

Don’t overlook Dada!

If you work in the city, then you probably on the hunt for cool spots to unwind after work. We all have our favorites and for different reasons. Sometimes its the view or to impress other times the vibe is critical.

When its for atmosphere, one of my favorites is Dadá on 2nd. It is easy to get to, right between Market and Mission.. just look for the blue paint and the neon orange sign above. You can walk right buy it as you would not think it was a bar. Don’t! Check it out and you are in for a treat. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) its a bit of a secret spot and I always hear, “How long has this been here?” The answer, about 5 years!

imageThey have a great happy hour, with long hours, strong drinks for reasonable prices.  What more can a person ask for? Oh yeah; art, lighting, good music (a bit loud)…all of which are good to go. It has art pieces strung around and really filling the place.  Lights dimmed and changing slowly between red, green and blue.

The bartender is usually a one man show so you do have to wait a bit but that’s OK. Gets really crowded on Thursday and Friday, thus I go earlier on in the week. Where I can enjoy and drink a$7 martinis? No where half as cool, yet people would just walk by it thinking ill. Trust me, it is not a dive but you would think it is from the outside.

November Electro/Techno Line-up.

After I wrote my concert list(https://jumpinsfbay.wordpress.com/2011/11/02/upcoming-concert-list-nov-jan/), I realize that there was a gap in this music list…. Electro/Techno. I love it just as much as I love rock or world.

So I started hunting, looking for events to check out too. Even when I find the ones that are good priced and many are around $10 and tons under $20. The ones that are over… well really turned my head (this is true for the concert list too). It is impossible to go to them all even if I could afford all of them, hope you find something good in here.

The Line-up:

11/12

– Hi Tek Soul Starring Derrick May & Kevin Saunderson 10PM to 3:30AM  >  $12/$15/$17

Not that excited about it.

11/17

– Dial Up Welcomes Jonah Sharp at Public Works  9 p.m. — 2 a.m.  More Info   >  $5

I am probably going to go to this. I have heard good things about Public Works and the price cannot be beat.

– Nadia Ali at Ruby Skye

Probably a great set to dance too, but also very expensive night. I have never loved the venue either.

11/18

– MAD DECENT // VIBRATE :: WITH PAUL DEVRO, DJ SABO, & SPECIAL GUEST

$5 before 11 RSVP: VIBRATESF@GMAIL.COM | $10 after

Decent deal, seems feasible for a good time.

JULIUS PAPP (NeoDisco Music) PATRICK WILSON (Movement) MIQUEL (KNT DJ)

– Afrolicious  at the Mezzanine 9pm $22 – Great group! It will be a good show.

– Electro Techno Disco Blackout at the Factory San Francisco CA $35, $45, then $55 – Looks like a wicked good time!

So what to choose? I really have no clue!

11/20
